An ExperimentYou know how when you click on a link, it takes a second for the new page to come up? Well, if you're me, looking at urticator.net as files on disk, you don't experience that delay; it occurred to me that maybe that one second is enough to make a qualitative difference in how it feels to use the urticator.net navigation tree. So, as an experiment, I am going to make the entire urticator.net project available as a single file, so that everyone can see what it's like as files on disk. If you like it, please let me know, otherwise I may not bother in the future. The file itself will be up on my home page somewhere. If I put it here, I'd feel obliged not to get rid of it later. Even worse, the file would need to contain a copy of itself, and that would be a little awkward. Actually, it would be relatively easy to make a self-extracting executable that included a copy of itself in the result, and it might even be possible to find a compressed file that contained itself plus the rest of urticator.net. Both possibilities remind me very much of Hofstadter. Consider, for example, the following two sentences, from On Viral Sentences and Self-Replicating Structures.
“yields falsehood when appended to its quotation.” yields falsehood when appended to its quotation. I'm still not going to put the file here, though.
