atom, atomicThese days, the word “atom” is used primarily in the scientific sense, to refer to … well, atoms. However, I also like to use it in its original sense (which is still valid), to refer to anything which is indivisible.Ironically, the word was chosen for use as a scientific term because atoms were thought to be indivisible; it wasn't until much later that they were found to have components. I'm not the only one who likes to use the word in its original sense—it is standard computer jargon.
