An ExampleI just noticed that all the parts of speech of the Latin verb “compono” made it into English, and I figured that was worthy of special notice.
Actually, it's probably not true that “component” made it into English; the English word “component” is probably a corruption of “componend”, just as “referent” is of “referend”. Oh well. There are some remarks on the structure of the word “compono” toward the end of the essay on present participles. The word “compound”, although clearly related, doesn't fit any of the patterns I've noticed, so I'll just mention it separately.
