Natural Order

You know how sometimes you get stuck behind a slow car while a packet of fast cars goes past?

If you're stuck in the middle (A), it can be frustrating to sit there and watch the other car (B) pull out and keep you boxed in, especially since in practice there can be a lot more than just one car behind you. However, that is the natural order of things, and there is no use fighting it. The other car has a clear space to pull out into, and you don't, and that's that.

In the past, when I was playing the role of B, I sometimes used to wait and let A go first. Now, though, I know that was foolish … almost exactly as foolish as choosing not to exercise right of way. The natural order isn't set by law like right of way, but it doesn't need to be, it is set by the nature of the system.

To put it another way, since the last car in is the first car out (LIFO), the line of cars is a stack, and the front is the bottom.
